Treating BRD effectively means more than using the right antibiotic at the right time. 

You need to determine which animals to pull and treat — and that can be challenging.  Statistics show that many animals die from BRD without ever showing signs. If more than 25 percent appear infected, specialists often recommend treating the whole group.

Then there’s the cost of labor associated with running cattle through the chute and administering the injections.  The risk of injection-site abscesses, broken needles and the added stress on moving animals also come into play.
